The teen heartthrob is advised one week's rest after acquiring minor sports injury at 'Princess and I Royal Championship'.
With less than one minute before game time at The Princess and I Royal Championship Final Game
, held last Sunday (January 20) at SM MOA Arena, Daniel Padilla (or DJ as he is fondly called by his friends) went down unexpectedly after trying to block a shot from Bobby Ray Parks Jr. Parks is the son of legendary PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) import Bobby Parks and the current back-to-back MVP of the UAAP (University Athletic Association of the Philippines) and plays for the National University Bulldogs. The game ended with DJ’s Team Gino winning 100-94 after the last quarter. Both teams had an equal number of UAAP imports with Jeron Teng of De La Salle University playing on DJ’s side.
According to his mother Karla Estrada (@Estrada21Karla), DJ has been advised to go on a week-long rest due to his injury. The actress went on her Twitter site to announce DJ’s condition to concerned fans and wrote the following messages:
“Guys ok na Si DJ, nagpapagaling na :)) ako naman nag papababa na init ng ulo sa nangyari! LOL. At least ok na DJ that's what matters most! Lahat Pwede mangyari sa game. Just understand the first reaction of a mother NA duguan Ang Anak.”
DJ had just made a perfect three-point shot before he went down to Parks during the turnover. After Parks took the shot, DJ went down and when he was not able to get up immediately, members of the production staff and security personnel escorted him to the medical crew to be treated. The crowd looked shocked to see that the Princess and I actor would not be able to finish the game with only 48 seconds left.
19-year-old student athlete Parks (@ray15parks) went to Twitter after the game to send his apologies for the accident. “I truly apologize for what happened at the game, didn’t mean it & it's a part of the game. To Daniel Padilla, fan, friends, fans I’m sorry #accident”
On the other hand, DJ’s older sister Roanna (@RoannaPadilla) also shared through Twitter that their family was not blaming anyone for the incident and explained to fans what really happened during the accident.
“Nasiko siya sa bball game pumutok loob hanggang labas ung hiwa kasi sa ipin niya tumama haha. He's okay na po, makulit parin naman after he got his stitches! Kawawang bata @imdanielpadilla kayang kaya yan! ;) he's all good.”
She also agreed with one of her followers who tweeted that Parks probably meant no harm at all. “@PrincessFrance: Aksidente po yung nangyari. For sure, Bobby Ray Parks meant no harm to Daniel. :)” – true! Ganyan talaga nangyayari sa bball”
During the awarding ceremony which followed right after the game, fans were happy to see DJ come back on the court to receive the trophy. The talented actor’s chin was bandaged and covered by an ice pack which he did not remove all throughout the ceremony. DJ’s loveteam partner Kathryn Bernardo also made sure to check up on his condition and also went to the hospital after his minor surgery.
